It Takes A Village To Raise A Pet

Our Handlers

We are dynamic, diverse, and dog crazy!

When our people thrive, your dogs thrive. Our handlers are knowledgeable in dog behavior and safety. Give us a few visits and we will know your dog by name and what they like and don’t like (even if we can’t tell who you are under your mask). All day, every day, our handlers are adjusting their groups to create the most compatible social groupings possible. Your dogs become part of our hearts.

Our Owners

Metro Dog is owned and operated by co-founder Diane Livoti Perlman and her husband, Todd Perlman. Diane has worked with dogs professionally since 2001. She is a CPDT-KA certified dog trainer through the independent credentialing organization, the Certification Council for Pet Dog Trainers, and is a CBC, Canine Behavior Consultant through the Marin Humane Society. She is a member of the American Pet Dog Trainer’s Association (APDT) and the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC). Diane ran one of the East Bay Area’s largest and most successful dog-walking and pet sitting businesses, DogTired!, prior to co-founding Metro Dog in 2005 and brings her extensive knowledge of off-leash group behavior to the play group setting. She continues her education through regular attendance of seminars and conferences. Todd joined the business in 2010 and runs Metro Dog’s sister company, Safe and Sound Home Pet Care, providing home care services to the community. Prior to joining the family business in 2010, Todd spent 20 years in journalism as a reporter and editor on the East and West coasts. Diane and Todd credit their amazing team for Metro Dog’s incredible success. Co-founder Alison Smith retired from the Metro Dog team in 2018.
